Former Kent State stand out Julian Edelman was inducted into the “Varsity K” Hall of Fame during halftime of the game.

“(Kent State is) a crucial part of my foundation,” Edelman said. “I learned football coming here. Being able to learn the fundamental things about this game through coach (Doug) Martin and his coaching staff was a crucial part of the development of my game.”

As a three-year starter at quarterback Edelman totaled 7516 all-purpose yards. In 2009 he was a seventh round pick (232nd) by the Patriots where he played a vital role in the team’s victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super XLIX.

“It was really good to come back to the university and see the strides that they’ve been putting forward,” Edelman said. “This place looks unbelievable. It’s great to be back and it’s an honor to be put in this Hall of Fame.”

Edelman also served as Grand Marshall for the weekend’s festivities.
