Flick Pick: “13 Going on 30”
January 15, 2014
This movie has it all: funny moments, sad moments, mean-girl moments, triumphant moments and moments where you’re so in love with Mark Ruffalo you can’t even stand it.
13 Going On 30 is the story of Jenna Rink, a 13 year old geek in 1987, who accidentally transports herself to 2004 after some wishful thinking on her birthday. Now Jenna, played by Jennifer Garner, is 30 years old and is left to fill in the gaps of the last 17 years with the help of her childhood best friend, played by Ruffalo.
This film also shows all of the girls who were mean to Jenna in middle school who grew up to be even meaner. It takes the fantasy and common misconception that teens need to grow up as quickly as possible and shows us that adult life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. At least that’s how I feel every time I get my bank statement.
