The School of Theatre and Dance will continue celebrating its centennial with the fall faculty dance concert Dance ’13 This Time on Friday at 8 p.m. in the E. Turner Stump Theatre, located in the Kent State Center for the Performing Arts.

The dance showcase will celebrate the growth of modern dance, said Andrea Shearer, artistic director for the dance concert.

Shearer said she would also be presenting a piece she co-choreographed with Danielle Stevens, an instructor in the School of Theatre and Dance.

Stevens is a two-time Kent State graduate. Shearer said the school wanted the concert to focus on faculty and alumni and showcase the current students.

Laiana Lewis, senior fashion merchandising major and dance performance minor, said This Time holds a different meaning for her.

“This Time, for me, it’s the last time that I will be performing in a faculty piece, so it means a lot to me,” Lewis said.

Lewis said she wants audience members to leave with an appreciation for art.

“If you’re leaving, and you’re talking about it, whether it be bad or good, then you appreciated it,” Lewis said. “That would be the main thing, just to come out and want to talk about it.”

Dance ’13 This Time will run Friday through Sunday. Friday and Saturday’s shows will begin at 8 p.m., and Sunday’s show will begin at 2 p.m.

Tickets for the performance can be purchased Monday-Friday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Performing Arts Box Office, located in the Kent State Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 330-672-ARTS or online at www.dance.kent.edu.
