NAACP President Ben Jealous said Sunday he plans to step down Dec. 31. Jealous said he would pursue teaching at a university and would spend more time with his young family. Jealous was the youngest-ever president of the organization, which is the largest civil rights organization in the United States.

MB JL Diana Nyad, the 64-year-old swimmer who last Monday was the first to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage, now is taking heat from fellow endurance swimmers who are skeptical of whether she accomplished the feat honestly. On social media and swimmers’ websites, some swimmers were questioning whether she got in or held onto the boat accompanying her or whether her special anti-jellyfish suit fit the strict guidelines known as the English Channel rules.

Thirteen children were hurt on a ride at a Connecticut festival that swings riders up, down and around after the ride lost power and dropped children to the ground. Most of the children who suffered minor injuries were treated at the festival, but several others were more seriously hurt and were taken to local hospitals.

The reward for information about a fraternity house arson fire at Ohio’s Miami University has increased to $10,000. The May 25 fire heavily damaged the Phi Delta Gamma house, but no one was hurt. The state fire marshal says investigators want to hear from anyone who saw or heard something out of the ordinary.
