“On Your Own Two Feet” participants to race for domestic violence
April 17, 2013
“On Your Own Two Feet,” a marathon and half marathon race to raise awareness towards domestic violence will take place Saturday.
This is the second year the “On Your Own Two Feet” marathon and half marathon has been put on for the fight against domestic violence. This year it is in memory of Tami Mitchell Wong, a woman who lost her life to domestic violence.
“Being a domestic violence survivor, it is a way I can use my passion of running and being healthy and use it to give back to the community,” said Melissa Cairns, head of the marathon.
The race starts at 9 a.m. at Beckwith’s Orchard in Kent, which is the start and finish line. The race’s website said the majority of the race is on bike tracks surrounding the “most beautiful parts of Kent.”
A ticket to participate in the half marathon is $60 compared to $85 for the full marathon. All proceeds from the race and donations will go to local survivors of domestic violence at a local shelter.
First, second and third overall winners for both races will receive gift certificates from Second Sole. All registered participants will receive a Nike long-sleeve shirt and goody bags.
