The Undergraduate Student Sociological Collective will host Dr. Jerry M. Lewis, professor emeritus of sociology, to give a lecture entitled “The Commons as Sacred Space” at 7 p.m. Thursday in room 107 of Merrill Hall.Lewis will be focusing on the events and repercussions of May 4, 1970. Although he is now retired, Lewis was a professor on Kent’s campus when the May 4 events transpired.Stephen Keto, sociology professor and faculty advisor for the collective, said that the purpose of Lewis’ lecture is so that these historic events will never be forgotten.“There’s always a concern. You know what they say – ‘When we don’t know our history we’re doomed to repeat it,’” he said. “He [Lewis] puts a sociological spin on it, but he also has that mission to pass on history so that people don’t forget.”For more information, contact Keto at 330-672-7877 or [email protected].Kelsey Leyva is the diversity reporter for the Daily Kent Stater.
