Kent State University students and faculty can tour the Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network Bus from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday in front of the M.A.C. Center.

C–SPAN is a public service, non-profit company created by the cable television industry in 1979. According to http://www.c-span.org/Community/#inside, the bus was launched February 2013.

The 45-foot-bus provides interactive resources, including a video library, to educate people about public affairs and government.

“I was surprised to hear about of the depth and breadth of their video library — massive archives of something close to 200,000 hours of programming that can be accessed easily and used for things like assignments and projects,” said Bob Burford, marketing coordinator at the university.

According to the press release, the video library has approximately 190,000 hours of programming dating back to 1986.

People from both the university and community are welcome to tour the bus, but Burford said students with interests in government or history might really enjoy the bus’ resources.

“For folks with a special interest in politics and the supreme court and legislation and journalism, it might be an interesting opportunity to stop by and see what they got going on your way to class tomorrow,” he said.

Burford said the C–SPAN Bus will also give out copies of the Constitution to people who visit.
