The timeline of my summer in NYC
August 4, 2009
(Columnist’s note: The following is a list of my tweets and notes on them over the past eight weeks in New York City. I leave this week.)
9:57 a.m. June 4: I just dreamed I met and hung out with Christina Aguilera in NYC. This disgusts me. I also excitedly told her my name was Kristina, too.
I did not meet Christina Aguilera. I did see Sarah Palin in the ESPNZone bathroom though. I was too scared to say anything to her, so I just washed my hands and left.
1:21 a.m. June 7: I want to go home. It’s late, and I hate Twitter and Creamsicles.
This was our first night out in NYC. Let’s just say that 1:21 a.m. is not late by New York standards. I was so lame eight weeks ago.
2:31 p.m. June 12: Tourist: “Are you from here?” Me: “Kinda?” . Just realized I gave them wrong directions to Times Square. Hi, I’m not from here.
I can give anyone directions to Times Square from anywhere in the city because, now, I’m a badass.
2:50 p.m. June 19: Shopping in SoHo. I’m not gonna last long, everywhere’s packed as hell.
I really hate SoHo at any time of day. It’s essentially a giant outdoor mall. Not as cool as I thought it would be.
4:22 a.m. June 22: Guh, I can’t take this fire alarm business at 4 a.m., Columbia.
This was the story of my life during my first weeks staying at Columbia. The alarms went off about every five seconds, making me want to rip my hair out.
9:16 a.m. June 24: Model: “(NYC) is usually hot and muggy and smells like urine. I miss it.” Ah, a model who actually sat and chatted with the lowly intern!
During a photo shoot in Brooklyn, I had a very interesting discussion with the model . turns out some of them aren’t as stuck up as I thought.
6:33 p.m. June 25: In the wine store by Columbia, they’re playing Thriller and it’s eerie, eerie as hell.
The day Michael Jackson died. Now I have Twitter to help me remember where I was when I heard the news.
11:29 a.m. July 1: For those of you all questioning my motives for flying home tomorrow morning – I love NYC. But I’m not IN LOVE with it.
Now, I’m in love with NYC.
6:17 p.m. July 8: Eating all the NYC staples today: Crumbs, Magnolia and now Shake Shack. I’ll be 800lbs by 8pm.
Good thing I had a zillion flights of stairs to climb up to my dorm.
5:48 p.m. July 12: “Free kayaking” apparently means you have to bring your own kayak, but you can use the Hudson River for free.
After our epic journey through Harlem to try to find this kayaking place . well, we had to drag our kayak along with us. And I left mine in Kent.
10:08 p.m. July 13: Guys in suits playing beer pong at Off The Wagon. Oh, NYC.
If I saw this in a Kent bar, I’d think the guys were real toolbags. It’s just the usual Monday night in the city though.
1:41 p.m. July 25: Hiii I’m Williamsburg and I am so hipster with my fluorescent skinny jeans and Ray Ban sunglasses.
They’re all so . original.
11:06 p.m. July 25: South Pacific was beyond amazing. Now, late dinner at Tom’s Restaurant – the one made famous by Seinfeld. Perfect night.
Perfect life.
8:29 p.m. July 28: I got the Empire State building to my right and a glowing, hazy half moon to my left.
Perfect moment.
. After this crazy, concrete-ridden, artsy, caffeine-induced, beautiful, perfect and ridiculous summer, I feel invincible.
