A transformer exploded on Claridon Troy Road in Burton, Ohio, Monday, causing a power outage at the Kent State Geauga campus.
The explosion occurred at about 1:10 p.m., said John Granny, Business Services Administrator at the Geauga campus.
A Flashline message notified students that classes were canceled and offices were closed for the rest of the day.
Power resumed Tuesday morning as anticipated, Granny said. He said the power returned intermittently throughout the day Monday and was fully restored when he arrived at work Tuesday.
A backup generator provided power for emergency lighting, phone service and other important functions throughout the day Monday, Granny said
