Problem with Gmail sends incoming mail to spam

Students have been experiencing problems with Gmail since this morning, said Information Services officials.

E-mails sent to kent.edu e-mail accounts are being forwarded to the spam box instead of the inbox, according to Jeremy Benington, senior client services representative at the Kent State Helpdesk. This poses a problem for anyone who forwards their kent.edu e-mails to a different e-mail client.

The problem has to do with Google, which hosts Kent State’s mail service, rather than the university.

“It’s on Gmail’s end,” said Beninger. “We’ve contacted Gmail and all we can do is wait to hear back from them.”

Kent State switched its e-mail platform from Flashline to a service provided by Google’s e-mail product, Gmail, in November.

Ian Davison, also from the Helpdesk, said they have no idea if the issue is just affecting Kent State or all Gmail accounts. But he said it does not look like all students are having problems.

“We can only look at the volume of calls we get,” Davison said. “Right now the amout of calls we’ve received hasn’t been overwhelming.”

Davison said they do not know when the problem will be fixed. He advises students to check their spam box for all incoming e-mails.
