Soccer team loses at Wright State

After opening the season with a win, the Kent State soccer team lost its first game of the season yesterday, 3-1 at Wright State.
The Raiders outshot the Flashes 15-8, and the Flashes were held to three shots in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Kris Nelson recorded three saves in the loss.
The Flashes (1-1) took an early lead after junior midfielder Catharine Marosszeky scored on a free kick that bounced off the Wright State defenders’ wall alignment 2:31 into the game.
The Raiders ended the Flashes’ early lead when freshman midfielder Sara Palermo tied the game with a goal at the 13:51 mark. The Raiders would score again quickly, as freshman forward Bekah Bonny scored at the 15:35 mark. The final goal of the game was scored at the 25:14 mark by Palermo.
The Raiders also had a significant margin of corner kicks over the Flashes with a 12-1 advantage and committed eight fouls to the Flashes’ 10.
The loss drops the Flashes’ all-time record to 0-5 against the Raiders.
The Flashes will return to Kent for their home opener against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. The Flashes play the Cougars at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Kent State Soccer Field behind Dix Stadium.
