USG approved its final operating budget proposal for the upcoming 2008-2009 school year at its meeting June 20th.

The budget totaled $174,882 and covers the expenses of things such as conference travel and co-sponsored events.

USG also passed a proposal in support of an on-campus polling site for the upcoming presidential election.

Jonathan Bey, executive director of USG, said it is important to have on-campus polling this year because of the significance of the upcoming presidential election.

ACPB President Colleen Burch received an allocation of $17,325 to continue ACPB’s Late-Night Programs, which include Midnight Movies in the Kiva and free local bands in the Rathskeller.

The late-night programs begin at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and are free for Kent State students and $2 for non-Kent State students starting in the fall.

Other plans include “an all-inclusive Web site” proposed by Bey. This potential Web site will include concert and movie times in the Kent and Cleveland areas.

Bey also proposed an idea of collaborating with PARTA to provide busing services for students from Kent State’s campus to events in Cleveland. Bey said he is pushing this idea with PARTA because of high gas prices.
