Student pleads not guilty on assault charges

Sarae Chaney pleaded not guilty to a felonious assault charge in her initial appearance at the Portage County Municipal Court yesterday.
Chaney, 18, was charged with the second degree felony after allegedly attacking Nastacia Randleman with a hammer at about 4 a.m. at Allerton Apartments on Sunday.
According to the official court documents, Judge Barbara Oswick set Chaney’s bond at $75,000. She also required that Chaney have no contact with Randleman.
Chaney’s preliminary hearing will be at 9 a.m. Friday with Judge John Plough of the Kent Municipal Court presiding.
