Softball hopes to keep momentum at home against Robert Morris
March 25, 2008
The Kent State softball team will play its first home series today at 2:30 p.m. with a doubleheader against Robert Morris at the Kent State Softball Field.
The Flashes (15-7) look to build on the success from this weekend’s Georgia Softball Spring Fling, where they finished with a 3-2 record.
Kent State coach Karen Linder said the team has been successful on the road this season thanks to a solid pitching staff and an occasionally potent offense.
“I think our pitching staff is doing a fantastic job,” Linder said. “We also have the potential to be very explosive offensively. This is probably the deepest team we’ve had offensively and defensively.”
Linder said the Flashes will enjoy a strong home field advantage at the Kent State Softball Field. Last season the Flashes went 8-3 at home.
“I think from a psychological standpoint it’s a motivational lift to play in front of family and friends,” Linder said. “If we get to play tomorrow it will be the first time we’ve stepped on the field since the Fall.”
Linder said the status of the games are uncertain due to the condition of the field.
Robert Morris enters the doubleheader with Kent State with a record of 7-7, including a win over Virginia Tech, who were ranked No. 22 at the time. Linder said the Colonials will be a tough challenge for the Flashes.
“They’ve always been a scrappy team,” Linder said. “Their offense is really their strength.”
