QLF to sponsor workshop on domestic violence tonight
March 13, 2007
The Queer Liberation Front is holding a domestic violence awareness workshop tonight, and co-chair April Templeman said she wants to see as many student faces as possible.
The workshop will also feature guest speakers Lisa Freedman, from the American Civil Liberties Union, who will talk about the first domestic violence case negatively effected by Issue 1, and Gary Heath, from the Buckeye Regional Anti-Violence Organization. A third speaker from Safer Futures, a battered women’s shelter, canceled, but Templeman said QLF is trying to secure a speaker from Townhall II instead.
Templeman said just because QLF is hosting the event doesn’t mean it is limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
“I encourage all students to attend because this is a subject that affects all people,” she said. “Also, those who haven’t experienced domestic violence should be aware of signs and symptoms of domestic violence in friends’ relationships.”
The workshop runs from 7 to 10 p.m. and will be held in Room 204 of the Student Center.
