A Ravenna man was found dead Saturday outside the Portage County Courthouse, according to a Ravenna Police Department press release.

Forty-seven-year-old Barry Kolcan’s body was discovered at 7:20 a.m., lying where the courthouse parking lot meets the Meridian Street sidewalk.

An autopsy performed at the Summit County Coroner’s Office showed evidence that Kolcan had fallen repeatedly in the parking lot. How long Kolcan may have laid in the cold weather of the parking lot is unknown at this time. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures reached a low of zero degrees Saturday morning.

Security cameras from Friday night recorded Kolcan and another man walking on Spruce Street from Chestnut Street around 10:22 p.m., the release stated. The man, whose identity is still unknown, supported Kolcan as they walked westbound then left him on the street after Kolcan fell in an area between Meridian Street and Park Way.

Due to a lack of lighting, the Ravenna Police security cameras could not pick up any activity in its parking lot. The cameras did, however, record at least 86 vehicles that traveled on the street next to Kolcan’s body throughout the night. Two pedestrians were also recorded heading southbound on Meridian Street on the opposite side of the street from Kolcan’s body.

Currently, no foul play is suspected, but the cause of Kolcan’s death is still under investigation.

Ravenna Police would not comment or disclose any further information about the case.

Police urge anyone with information about the unidentified man or Kolcan’s death to contact the department at (330) 296-6486.
