Wireless Internet access, podcasting and keeping Kent State on par with changing technology were the hot topics at the first meeting of the Student Input Advisory Commission (SIAC) last night at the Student Center.

The committee was created through a bill passed by the Undergraduate Student Senate last month. The bill was presented by Benjamin Feld, senator for student advancement, and Kourtney Wolfgang, senator for research and development. It was created to represent several departments without student advising and improvement committees.

Members of the SIAC include Feld, Wolfgang, two at-large members and one representative each from Black United Students, the Inter-Greek Programming Board, Kent Interhall Council, PRIDE!Kent and the Commuter and Off-Campus Student Organization.

At last night’s meeting, Feld, Wolfgang and KIC finance chair Nicole Wagner met with Ed Mahon, vice president of information services, Dave Dalton, from the College of Education, Health and Human Services, and two representatives from the Stark campus.

“We want to get an idea of what student technology services can provide,” Mahon said during the meeting.

Feld, Wolfgang and Wagner gave their ideas about how information and technology services can be more accessible to students and also discussed the idea of a new technology center for students.

“I was very pleased with how it went,” Feld said. “It’s good for the department.”
