A head-on car crash on Brady Lake Road in Kent sent two men to the hospital today. Their names and conditions are unknown.

Sgt. Terry Duerr of the State Highway Patrol said it appeared the driver of a Chrysler Sebring went left of center and hit a Dodge Caravan. He said the crash is still under investigation, so they don’t have all the details yet.

Both men were taken to separate hospitals immediately. There were no eye-witnesses.

Joanna Shaw, who called 911, said she was picking up her son from her sister’s house at 1923 Brady Lake Rd. when the crash happened. She was outside talking to Curtis Dixon, who lives there as well, when they heard the cars collide.

“I saw the green van go by and then ‘pop,'” Dixon said. “I didn’t see who was at fault.”

Shaw, Dixon and Chuck Yost, Shaw’s brother-in-law, went to check on the drivers. Yost said the driver of the Chrysler looked badly hurt. He said he helped the firefighters remove the driver from the car.

Capt. John Tosko of the Kent Fire Department said the driver of the Chrysler was unconscious when the ambulance took him the Robinson Memorial Hospital. He said he couldn’t comment on the extent of the driver’s injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan was conscious, Tosko said. He was taken to Akron City Hospital.

Mark Chidester, who lives at 1925 Brady Lake Rd., said that portion of road is dangerous because of the amount of traffic and drivers who don’t follow the speed limit. Because it’s a straight road, he said drivers speed all of the time.

“A lot of people take this road to avoid 59 because it will take you straight to Ravenna,” he said.

Nobody ever does 35 mph, Yost said.

“They think it’s the Indianapolis 500.”
