Twister, mechanical bull highlight weekend’s events

Younger brothers, sisters, cousins and friends could be seen all over campus this weekend during the themed “Wild and Crazy Sibs” Lil’ Sibs Weekend, sponsored by Kent Interhall Council.

The weekend was filled with events for siblings of all ages with festivities including a carnival, talent show and games. A carnival kicked off the weekend Friday night with character drawings and a junkyard fashion show.

Nikki Makowski, a sophomore integrated business education major, had a brother, sister and four cousins visit for Lil’ Sibs Weekend. She said they enjoyed the festivities and they still had a lot planned to do.

“We went to the carnival last night and played games,” Makowski said. “We also got our characters drawn.”

Saturday, siblings speckled Centennial Court fields in their blue and gold T-shirts as they participated in an obstacle course and other planned activities.

“The kids liked the obstacle course the best so far,” Makowski said. “We still have to finish the inflatables, and then we are off to ice skating.”

Wax hands, airbrush tattoos and a mechanical bull contributed to the fun of the wild and crazy weekend.

Freshman architecture major Dustin Fowkes had his 16-year-old brother visit for the weekend and said the program was a good way to spend time with someone younger in a college setting.

“It’s hard to do things with older sibs cause of all the partying,” Fowkes said. “This weekend gives the kids a chance to spend a fun weekend at college with their sib.”

Residence halls also sponsored activities such as a Twister tournament, tie-dying and a sleep over party for the sibs.

Senior advertising major Erika Hudson said her siblings enjoyed being on campus.

“The kids like all the games and stuff, but I think they really just like saying they are going to their sister’s college,” Hudson said.

Yesterday afternoon finished off with free pictures with Flash.

“I think this weekend was really well organized for the children,” Makowski said. “Everything was set up nice, and the kids are really enjoying themselves.”
