Several Kent State architecture students were introduced to the works of Carlos Jimenez last night at the second of three lectures of the Spring Design Lecture 2006 series.

Jimenez, an internationally recognized architect and one of the United States’ top young architects, lectured about the importance of time in developing architectural structures.

Buildings themselves tend to disappear, but architecture is ever present. It has to be enjoyed for a long period of time, he said.

“Architecture is bounded and contained in time,” Jimenez said. “This speed and time inspires meaning in my architecture.”

The Spring Design Lectures are organized by the American Institute of Architecture Students and funded by the Undergraduate Student Senate. The goal of the series is to promote design.

The next lecture will be given on March 16 by two Verzone Woods Architects, Craig Verzone and Cristina Woods.
