Field hockey names Schanne new coach

The Kent State field hockey team got a new coach yesterday. Laing Kennedy, Kent State director of athletics, named Kathleen Schanne as the team’s new head coach, replacing Kerry DeVries who left the team at the end of the 2005 season.

Schanne joins the Flashes from Miami, where she spent four seasons with the RedHawks.

“I am very impressed with Kathleen Schanne,” Kennedy said in a press release. “What our programs needs right now is what she will bring to us.”

Schanne worked as a graduate assistant for the Flashes for two seasons in 2000 and 2001 while she completed her master’s degree in education.

“I am very excited to be returning to Kent State and also extremely grateful to Mr. Kennedy and the athletic department for this opportunity,” Schanne said in a press release. “I am really anxious to begin working with the team this spring.”
