Alleged sex offender pleads not guilty

Joseph Heidrick, 26, of Parma pleaded not guilty on all charges yesterday in the Portage County Common Pleas Court.

Heidrick, a Kent State student, was arrested Jan. 12 for soliciting sexual acts from minors on their way home from school in Ravenna. He was indicted Thursday on six counts of importuning, two counts of public indecency and one count of abduction.

“We believe he definitely does pose a risk to the community at large,” said Paul Gallagher, the prosecutor representing the state.

Heidrick remains in jail. Judge John A. Enlow set the bond at $100,000.

Gallagher said the alleged events occurred over a two-month period.

Included in these allegations is an attempt to pull a girl by her arm into his car, Gallagher said.

Heidrick faces nine counts ranging from fifth to third degree felonies, his attorney Doug Kehres said.

The preliminary hearing is set for March 24, and the trial is set to begin March 28.
