“If Christ were here there is one thing he would not be – a Christian.”

For several days now, Mark Twain’s infamous words have been plastered across campus: white exclamation points on a sea of crimson. Sevenoseven, a Broadview Heights church that targets young adults in the greater Cleveland area, proudly claims ownership of the advertisements. At 8 p.m. today in the Student Center Ballroom, sevenoseven will host “a discussion of Christian spirituality, its relevance and its importance.”

The discussion will be accompanied by entertainment, courtesy of sevenoseven’s own band.

“There’s going to be music,” said former intern Jessica Doyle, who helped organize the evening’s events. “It’s gonna be like a concert.”

Doyle said some people, when told about the worship service, would expect hymns, but that won’t be the case.

Dan Burgoyne, senior pastor at sevenoseven, will deliver the main message, which will be followed by more music and prayer time.

Doyle said that though an appearance at Kent State costs sevenoseven “huge bucks,” this year is the church’s second appearance at the university.

“We’re trying to get to all the big colleges in Northern Ohio,” she said.
