WEB EXCLUSIVE NEWS: Three students killed, one injured in accident

A two-car accident left three Kent State students dead and one in critical condition Thursday night near Alliance.

Chelsea Lausberg, Eric Citino and Brandon Bulter were pronounced dead on the scene. Megan Daum, 19, of Merrysville, is in critical condition and was lifeflighted to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown.

The accident occurred around 9:11 p.m. Thursday on the intersection of Beloit Snodes Road and State Route 14 in Smith Township, according to Canfield State Highway Patrol. Citino, the driver of the car, ran a stop sign and collided with 5250 Ford pickup driven by Michael Nelson, 41, of Salem.

“I extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our students — Brandon Butler, Eric Citino and Chelsea Lausberg — whose promise-filled lives were lost so tragically,”President Carol Cartwright said in an e-mailed statement. “We hope that during this very difficult time, you will find comfort in knowing that so many are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers.”

University spokesman Ron Kirksey said there are no current plans for a memorial service, but plans for a memorial should come together after services for the families. More details should be available at the beginning of next week.
