Kent band alumni came together Friday to attend the men’s basketball game against Akron and pack the MACC in gold. A record number of 35 alumni signed up for this event. These members were able to join the current members of the band in playing on the Flashes during the game.

“It is a growing community. It is really great to see the spirit,” said Timothy McDonnell, president of the University Bands Alumni Chapter said.

McDonnell graduated in 1990 and played the trombone in the band. During his time at Kent, he met his wife who was also a member of the band. McDonnell credits the friendships he made for his love of Kent State and one of the main reasons he returns to watch games and continue being a Golden Flash.

Kathy Heeter graduated in 1989 played alto saxophone in the band. She also said the friends she made during her time at Kent is what keeps her coming back to campus. She also enjoys the energy the current Flashes have for their community.

“It’s always nice to have Kent alumni coming back to sporting events,” Associate Director of Alumni Relations Joy Wesoloski said. “We always love when alumni come back.”
