New café opens in College of Aeronautics and Engineering

The Charging Station is a new café located in the Timken Atrium in the Aeronautics and Engineering building that opened September this year.

Partnering with local vendor Bent Tree Coffee, The Charging Station will bring flatbreads, sandwiches, salads, snacks and coffee to the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, Coordinator of Operations and Special Projects Jeanie Stenson said.

The Timken Atrium is the new addition built over the summer in the Aeronautics and Engineering building that was made possible by a donation from The Timken Foundation.

“We serve fresh brewed coffee from Bent Tree,” shift supervisor Dara Law said. “We also have ‘Snapchills.’ It’s cold coffee that comes in a can.”

The café is cashless, but customers can order from kiosks using credit, debit or Flashcards.

There are options for those with dietary restrictions, including a vegetarian sandwich and customization options on the kiosk to remove items with dairy or gluten, Stenson said.

“A lot of students get here early and stay all day,” Stenson said. “It’s a great place for them to get something fast and continue with their studying.”

The café will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with their biggest rush being lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The café held its grand opening with free samples and a tour of the building Friday, Oct. 20, at 3 p.m.
