Christmastime truly is the most wonderful time of the year for music — and we start blasting those jams early.

Really early. Nov. 1 to be exact. (Though some of us may admit we have been known to listen to “Feliz Navidad” in July occasionally.)

But really, with tunes like “Frosty The Snowman,” “White Christmas” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” there’s no way we could possibly wait until the beginning of December to get into the holly jolly spirit. It brings us such nostalgia and joy to hear “I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas,” “Dominick the Donkey” and “All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth.”

Even Wham!’s “Last Christmas” and Justin Bieber’s rendition of “Little Drummer Boy” deserve some love before radio stations turn to Christmas stations and Spotify starts featuring holiday playlists.

Christmas music puts us in the mood for the season, which is why we start listening early. Why not extend the best time of year?

We do understand that for some, playing Christmas music before the “true” holiday season arrives may make the festivities not as exciting. But for us, we believe the warm, cozy feeling of the holidays is not meant for only a mere 25 days of the year. We want to start celebrating — and jamming — early so we are able to truly appreciate all the fuzziness Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé, Dean Martin and Mariah Carey bring to us every year.

Don’t get the wrong idea, though, we still absolutely love Thanksgiving. Listening to Christmas music and getting into the holiday spirit early doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about it. Thanksgiving is a lovely time to spend with family and friends, eating good food and being grateful. One thing we are definitely grateful for is Christmas music.

So, even though it’s only Nov. 19, we encourage you (once you’re done reading this article and voting in the poll below) to grab a cup of hot cocoa, coffee, wine or whatever your drink of choice is these days and turn on some Christmas tunes.

It’ll help you get through these last few weeks of the semester and the beginning of what seems to be a very cold Ohio winter.

We’re certain you won’t regret it.

Happy Holidays!

THIS OR THAT: When is it acceptable to listen to Christmas music?
