OBITUARY: T. Douglas “Doug” Grayson

T. Douglas Grayson, affectionately known as “Doug”, passed away on Thursday, November 30th, 2023.  He was born on June 24th, 1946 to Thurman Edward and Eugenia Grayson at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lorain, Ohio.

A loving Father, Husband, Brother and Friend, Doug was a kind and gentle soul, whose reach extended beyond those of his immediate circle & community, leaving a legacy of excellence and an indelible impact on those around him, as he was deeply loved and respected by so many.

As an educator, he believed in people, when they didn’t believe in themselves, and always saw the potential & value of every life entrusted to his care, having worked in both the Elyria & Lorain City Schools as a Teacher & Coach.

As an athlete, he raised the bar and set the standard, garnering many accomplishments during his time as a student at Admiral King High School in Lorain, Ohio, and at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, most notable of those as an NCAA record holder.

He was preceded in death by his Father – Thurman Edward Grayson, Mother – Eugenia Grayson-Howard, Wife – MaryAnn Grayson (née Leonard), & Bonus Brother, Dennis Howard, and survived by his immediate family: Daughters Tierney Z. Grayson & Asha M. Grayson, and Bonus Mom Clivetta Grayson, as well as Siblings Roderick P. (Gaynell) Grayson , Derek L. Grayson, Sandra D. (Rodney) Thomas and Amy K. (Joe) Eisom, Vickie Felder, Marsha Dickerson, Monica Whitehead,

Michael Albertha, Nancy Simmons and Montell Albertha, as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Arrangements have been made through Brown-Robinson Funeral Home in Lorain, Ohio. Services will be held on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 at Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria, Ohio 44035.  A public viewing will be held from 10am-12pm, and the service will begin at 12pm.
