This year one of the Go Red for Women events has been converted into the Heart Health for All Luncheon. To celebrate American Heart Month, all staff members will have the opportunity to register for this event where they will receive lunch and hear from official speakers in culinary services and University Hospitals.

Sheba Marshall, Executive Director of Employee Benefits and Wellness, said that the event has been wildly popular in the past for staff and frequently sold out in previous years.

The in-person luncheon was on Feb. 15 with one virtual option for the event occurring on Tuesday and another scheduled for Thursday.

“We really want to make sure that [the] campus and community are getting educated and well-rounded heart and nutrition habits. This is what we want to drive home,” Madison Massey, a coordinator for Employee Health and Wellness Promotion, said.

Sarah Korzan, a licensed dietitian from Kent State’s culinary services, is one of two featured speakers at the events. Korzan will cover everything from portioning to how to avoid food-related diseases. She offers 30-minute nutrition counseling specialized in several different topics if more specific help is needed.

Marc Streem, a Registered Nurse at University Hospitals, will cover cardiovascular care, including strokes, heart disease and heart attacks. He will also describe and explain how these have different lasting effects on men and women from different age groups.

Both are members of the Kent State community and are actively trying to improve the lives of its inhabitants by speaking at webinars and seminars promoting health and beneficial habits.

The Heart Health For All Luncheon welcomes all Kent State Staff members to attend.
