A tent shelter belonging to “John” who asked not to have his name used, sits behind pillars under the Haymaker Parkway Bridge in Kent, Ohio Wednesday, Jan 30, 2019. John, though offered a ride to the warming center in Ravenna, opted to stay in his shelter during the evening. “I was warm enough here,” said John. “Why would I go all the way out there?” John has been living under the bridge since fall of 2018. Though he has sought out the help of social programs in the past, he cites his distaste without those program are operated for why has decided to stay with his shelter. “I got fed up with the system,” said John. “I guess I’m just disgusted with all of it, with the way it’s run.”
