Kent State wrestling had a mixed bag this weekend with a win against Ohio and a blowout defeat to no. 5 Oklahoma State.

Kent State won six of the seven matches against Ohio, culminating in an 18-13 victory.

Chance Driscoll (141), Dylan Barreiro (174), Tim Rooney (141), Casey Sparkman (157) and Isaac Bast (165) all contributed to the Flashes’ recapturing of the Grudge Match Trophy in Athens.

“We wrestled hard tonight and the guys that won looked good,” coach Jim Andrassy told Kent State Athletics. “We just need to keep improving.”

The Flashes finished the weekend in Stillwater with a 42-3 road loss to Oklahoma State.

Kent struggled to get on the board, with Isaac Bast (165) being the only wrestler to win his match with a 7-1 score.

“You always want to win more matches, but it was a huge crowd and a great atmosphere for our guys to experience,” Andrassy told Kent State Athletics.

The Flashes completed the weekend with a 11-6 record.

Last week, four Kent State wrestlers were ranked, including Anthony Tutolo at 133 pounds, Tim Rooney at 141 pounds, Nicholas Monico at 149 pounds and Kyle Conel weighing in at 197 pounds.

The Flashes return to the mat against Eastern Michigan at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 4, at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center.
