Kent City Police engaged in a standoff situation this afternoon after attempting to serve a felony warrant.

According to Lt. Mike Lewis, Kent officers attempted to serve a felony warrant on 28-year-old, India R. Scott, this afternoon at 1543 Franklin Ave. When officers arrived, Scott ran into the duplex and refused to come outside. Several people evacuated from the home reported Scott was upstairs with a gun.

Kent Police then secured the scene and notified Metro SWAT. Scott surrendered to Kent Police, unarmed around 1 p.m.

Scott was wanted by Portage County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) for failing to appear on a felony charge of dangerous drugs. Scott is now being held without bond on the felony charge through PCSO, and was additionally charged with inducing panic by the Kent Police Department. Other charges may follow after investigation.

Lewis said there were no injuries sustained during the standoff and the investigation is still ongoing.

UPDATE:
As a result of the search of the home, Kent Police have located a fully loaded firearm where the suspect had been barricaded.
