University Libraries prepare for Student Appreciation Day

University Libraries will host a campus-wide event Monday for students to enjoy free food, drinks and prizes in honor of Student Appreciation Day.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at every library on campus, including the Architecture, Performing Arts, Map and Fashion Libraries.

Jasmine Jefferson, subject librarian and assistant professor, helped plan the event. Jefferson said she even contacted the regional campuses, who are also considering holding events on the same day to keep within the theme.

“It’s really just our way of saying ‘Thank you for using the library and using our resources,’” Jefferson said. “I mean, everybody loves free food, so it will be fun.”

There will be a variety of snacks, including fruit, cookies and muffins in the morning and freshly popped popcorn in the afternoon. The University Library will be using a wider space than usual this year to set out board games for people to play.

Activities will also be available from the Student Multimedia Studio. The studio will have its 3D printing on display, as well as motion software. Jefferson said they also may display a few other tech items.

The University Library will also have therapy dogs in the afternoon for students to play and relax with.

“Students can take a break from what they’re doing and come hang out,” Jefferson said.
