The Kent State football team added a key addition to their defense when Elvis Hines Jr., a three-star cornerback out of Florida, committed to join the Flashes in the spring semester.

The 5’10, 172 pound defensive back attended IMG Academy, a school that has produced a 30-1 record in the past three years and 20 Under Armor All-Americans since 2013. The team complied a 20-0 in the time that Hines attended there.

“Elvis is an aggressive player that tackles well in space,” said Recruiting Coordinator Mark Spencer in an interview with Kent State Athletics. “He was well-coached and we feel like he can play multiple positions in our secondary.”

Hines tallied two fumble recoveries and three interceptions in his junior year. The cornerback also totaled 16 pass breakups and 51 tackles in two years at IMG. He will be added to a Kent State defense that ranked 22nd in the country in pass defense last season.

The rest of the 2017 incoming class will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 1, during National Signing Day.
