Haymaker Parkway was closed Tuesday night in response to a car fire.

Kent Fire and Police Departments were called to the scene, outside of the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center, at approximately 5:25 p.m. in response to a car fire.

One fire truck and five police cars arrived at the scene, redirecting traffic and extinguishing the fire.

Alex Dailey, a University of Akron student, was driving through Kent when his car began to smoke. Dailey said he exited his vehicle, noticing liquid leaking from his car. The hood of his car then ignited in flames.

“Physically, I’m fine… just a little shook up,” Dailey said. He did not call emergency crews and is unaware of who did.

There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.

Officials closed Haymaker Parkway from Panini’s to The Kent State University Hotel.
