Kent State students competing for Miss Ohio

Two Kent State Students will be in the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program Pageant as one of the 20 contestant vying for the opportunity to become Miss Ohio of 2016.

Erin Simonek, of North Royalton, and Veronica Garey, of Akron, are taking part in the Miss Ohio Pageant week where the contestants will partake in a variety of events that accumulates to the coronation of the winner on Saturday, June 18.

The Miss Ohio Week includes events such as the Miss Ohio Parade in Downtown Mansfield, where attendees can meet and receive autographs from the contestants.

The winner of the Miss Ohio Pageant will receive $10,000 scholarship from the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, according to a quote given to the Mansfield News Journal by Steven Oliveri, the executive director of the Miss Ohio program.

According to its website, The Miss Ohio Scholarship Program (MOSP) is a not-for-profit organization that has a long history of empowering young women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum for them to express their intelligence, opinions, talents and dedication to community service.
