The Kent State men’s golf team placed fourth at the Boilermaker Invitational with solid play, taking advantage of birdie opportunities. Their third round performance alone was better than the school that won the title.

Sophomores Ian Holt and Chase Johnson as well as freshman Gisli Svenibergsson shot three-under in the Boilermaker. The par for the course was 69. Junior Josh Whalen and freshman Bjarki Petursson finished their round one-over.

The team entered the third round in eighth place, but their stellar round moved them up four spots. Holt placed fourth individually by shooting four-under for the weekend and making important birdie opportunities.

Sveinbergsson finished one-under in the tournament and tied for tenth. He made due with six birdies in his final round. Johnson shot one-over giving him a tie for 18th place. Whalen and Petursson tied for 45th place, coming in at eight-over.

The Flashes will compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships April 28-30 in Highland Hills.
