Kent State men’s and women’s track team host rival Akron in the Akron Dual on Friday, Jan. 22 at Kent State’s Field House.

According to a pre-season poll from the MAC conference website, Akron’s men’s team ranked at number one, and Flashes’ men ranked third.  Kent State’s women’s team is ranked number two with the Zips close behind in third place. Friday’s dual will either be an upset or an overtaking.

Jorian Ordway and Cayla Carey of Kent State’s women’s team agreed that each team sees what their rival has and it sets the pace for the season.

“We love to compete against Akron, and they love to compete against us,” Coach Olimpia Nowak said. “It’s a fun meet, but obviously we’re looking for a win—not necessarily times.”

”Both the men’s and women’s team are looking for a victory in tomorrows rivalry match-up,” Nowak said. “Last season, Kent’s track and field team split this meet, but tomorrow, Kent is looking for an upset in the men’s division and an overall victory for both teams.”
