Kent State sophomore Wad Phaewchimplee was named Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week for the second straight week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Phaewchimplee’s second consecutive Golfer of the Week honors come on the heels of an impressive showing at the rain-shortened Jim West Challenge in Boerne, Texas this past Sunday and Monday.

Inclement weather forced the golfers to play a 36-hole final day at the event Monday, and Phaewchimplee rose to the occasion.

She stepped up for her team and posted a tournament-low score of 67, or 5-under-par, in the second round and followed up the low score with a 1-under-par score of 71 to wrap up the third and final round of the tournament.

Because of Phaewchimplee’s late push, she ended up finishing 2-under-par to win the tournament. According to kentstatesports.com, she was the only golfer to shoot under par in the event with the second-place finisher shooting even par.

The last time Phaewchimplee nabbed the Golfer of the Week award was two weeks ago when she placed seventh at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The women’s golf will take a winter hiatus and will return to action in the spring, kicking off the renewed season with the Lady Puerto Rico Classic held in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico on Feb. 15 to 17.
