James Renner, author of “It Came from Ohio: True Tales of the Weird, Wild, and Unexplained,” will be signing books on Friday, Oct. 31 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the University Bookstore.

“It Came from Ohio” explores 13 tales of unexplained events in Ohio including the Loveland Frog, Kirtland Melon Heads, Defiance Werewolf and Mothman of the Ohio River.

Renner, an investigative reporter, graduated from Kent State’s writing program in 2000.

Copies of his book are available in the University Bookstore, located on the first floor of the Student Center.

Renner currently resides in Akron, Ohio and is a novelist, freelance journalist, and blogger. His true crime stories have been published in the Best American Crime Reporting and Best Creative Nonfictions anthologies.

“He writes mysteries and unsolved murders,” Nikki Dech, a sales associate at the University Book Store, said. “Renner’s work is great for anyone interested in mysteries, folklore and the unexplained.”

The event will be Halloween-themed with snacks and beverages. There will be a candy corn raffle, with the prize being a signed copy of Renner’s book “It Came from Ohio.”

The event is free and open to the public.
