The men’s cross country team placed seventh overall with 237 points and the women’s team finished eighth overall with 233 points at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday, Oct. 3, in Cedarville, Ohio.

Against Division I opponents, the men finished fifth out of seven teams with a total of 103 points as the women’s side took fourth out of seven teams with 80 points. The men posted a total team time of 2:09:40.58 on the 8k course, and the women recorded a time of 1:55:35.88 on the 6k course.

Fifth-year senior Matt Kahl led the way for the men with a time of 25:05.27 for fourth place. Kahl was closely followed by sophomore Jared Fleming at 25:39.93 (14th place) and redshirt sophomore Mitchell Grose at 25:49.80 (19th place).

Redshirt sophomore Grant Onken placed 35th in a time of  26:18.81 (35th place). Redshirt sophomore Samuel Allen came across with a time of 26:46.77 (46th place), and freshman Nick Schank rode right on his heels at 26:47.79 (47th place). Redshirt sophomore Joe Wisniewski placed 48th in a time of 26:53.53 as senior Joey Kinkelaar came across in a time of 26:55.86 for 50th place. Redshirt sophomore Matt Waaland rounding out the pack with a time of 27:13.79 for 58th place.

On the women’s side, Kelsey McAlpine continues to place better and better in bigger meets as she finished second with a time of 22:13.73. Her running partner, junior Rachel Slingluff, finished right behind her with a time of 22:36.66 for fifth place.

Redshirt sophomore Taylor Wickey followed Slingluff at 23:30.73 (23rd place), and redshirt sophomore Lindsey Myers was right behind her at 23:32.06 (26th place). Freshman Morgan Bing finished in 30th place with a time of 23:42.42, Brigid Callaghan placed 32nd at 23:48.81 and Madison Spreitzer took 44th with a time of 24:14.13. Redshirt sophomore Kristen Bergmeyer came across in 49th place with a time of 24:20.53 with junior Jesse Slingluff wrapped up the meet for the women’s team with a 54th-place finish at 24:52.90.

The Flashes will race again in two weeks on Saturday, Oct. 18, when the team travels to Terre Haut, Indiana, for the NCAA Pre-National Invitational, hosted by Indiana State.
