After much anticipation, Apple introduced the long-awaited iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and the Apple Watch to the public on Tuesday afternoon.

According to apple.com, Philip Schiller, who serves as the marketing chief of Apple, presented the phones in front of an audience at the Flint Performing Arts Center in California.

The iPhone 6 was the first phone that was introduced to the audience during the presentation. The phone is a larger and thinner version than previous iPhones, and is equipped with an aluminum body, a 4.7-inch screen and a glass front. Prices for the iPhone 6 start at $199 for a 16 GB version, $299 for a 64 GB and $499 for a 128 GB. This includes a two-year contract and a shipping date of Sept. 19.

Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus has a little bit bigger of a screen, measuring at 5.5 inches. The phones are thinner than previous versions as well. The iPhone 6 is 6.9 mm thick and the iPhone 6 Plus comes in at 7.1 mm. Prices for the iPhone 6 Plus starts at $299 for a 16 GB version. $399 for a 64 GB and $499 for the 128 GB version. Apple will also sell silicon and leather cases to go along with the new phones.  Apple’s Apple Watch will start at $349 and will be available for sale in 2015.

The release of the new iPhones and Apple Watch is already starting to create a buzz among Kent State students.

Senior Shaima Alsodoun said that while she hasn’t seen the iPhone 6 yet, the phone is something she will probably purchase.

“I’d like to see what it looks like, what the advantages are and how it’s different from the iPhone 5,” Alsodoun said. “I tend to buy the latest iPhones, so I plan on getting this one.”

Senior finance major Matthew Bogard said that he wants to wait and see what the new technology has to offer before he decides to invest in an iPhone 6 or Apple Watch.

“I haven’t seen what’s new about the iPhone or Apple Watch, so I’m sticking with the phone I have now,” Bogard said. “If either of them have something I’m interested in, I’ll buy it.”

Bogard said that he thinks both the iPhone 6 and iWatch will be on the must-have list next year because of the desire some people have for new merchandise.

“People are going to spend a lot of money on the phone simply because it’s new,” Bogard said. “They all want to keep up with the latest new thing.”
