Election season is in the air. What better way to learn more about the upcoming elections and those who are running than speaking with the candidates themselves? Well Kent Staters, the Kent State College Republicans have brought that opportunity to you. Last Friday, the Kent State College Republicans were proud to have Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted join them and the rest of the student body for a meet and greet in the Governance Chambers of the Student Center.

Secretary Husted gave an insightful speech encouraging students to vote and make sure their voices are heard. After the speech, Secretary Husted took questions from the audience, allowing students to voice any questions, opinions or concerns they made have had, as well as get to know Secretary Husted better overall.

The Kent State College Republicans also had the honor of hosting Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor in the Student Center on Monday, Sept. 8. She talked to Kent State students about how she and Governor John Kasich are working to keep taxes low and create more jobs. She also took the time at the end to talk to the Kent State students personally.

Now, you may be asking yourself how the College Republicans have been able to arrange such events. The Kent State College Republicans are an extremely active political club here on campus. They are directly involved with many local and statewide campaigns, getting to work closely with the candidates and getting real hands-on political experience. It is because of their hard work that candidates are more than happy to come visit our campus and make themselves available to the Kent State students. Elected officials throughout Ohio know how respected the Kent State College Republicans are in Ohio politics, and that is why they are not only willing to come, but they want to come to Kent State to excite more people about getting involved. This is not only beneficial to the students of Kent State, but to the overall image of the university.

The Kent State College Republicans have worked hard to bring these officials to Kent State in hopes that it will further encourage other elected officials and candidates to visit. It looks like their hard work paid off, and they are doing big things for the university.
