Katie’s Korner Ice Cream up for sale

Water Street’s homemade ice cream shop, Katie’s Korner, is seeking new ownership. Akron-based commercial real estate company Crest Group, LTD. will be handling the sale and has the business priced at $59,900.

Though owner Rich Prulhiere declined to comment to the Stater directly, he released a statement through his Crest Group broker Bob Wilson.

Prulhiere states in the release that he originally bought Katie’s Korner to “provide business experience, a secure, flexible hours job and income to his daughters” while they attended Kent State University. However now that his daughters have graduated, “it is time to find a new owner or operator – perhaps another KSU student family with a similar strategy.”

Wilson made it clear that only the business is for sale. The property is not for purchase as the current lease agreement would be passed on to the new owner – meaning residents shouldn’t expect a new business to take the place of Katie’s Korner.

Kent has been home to the franchise for more than 12 years.
