Stein House Movers, Inc., the firm that moved the Wells Sherman house to its temporary location on East College Ave. last August, confirmed the relocation will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday to the lot at 247 N. Water St.

“It’s about time,” said Roger Thurman, vice president of Kent Wells Sherman House, Inc. Board of Directors of the long-anticipated move.

Thurman said the board scouted several locations before selecting the lot on North Water St.

Karlyn Stein, representative for Stein House Movers, Inc., said the move will last about one hour, and the city will close roads as the house moves.

The relocation route starts on Haymaker Parkway at College Ave. and Depeyster Street heading east to Erie Street; west on Erie Street to South Water Street; north on South Water Street crossing Main Street; and ends at 247 N. Water St, confirmed the Kent Service Department.

Kent Service Director Gene Roberts told Kent Patch an extended road closure is required on North Water Street from Columbus Street to Portage Street in order to place the house on the lot.

The 1858 Greek Revival-style house is expected to stand permanently at its new location.
