Update: Power plant fire under control; Liquid Crystal Institute, Math building evacuations lifted

A structural fire was reported around 11 p.m. Thursday at the Kent State power plant, according to a police dispatcher, but the fire was reported under control by 12:10 a.m.

FlashAlerts sent a text message warning to avoid the area around the power plant and to evacuate the Math building and Liquid Crystal Institute, but the evacuations were lifted by 12:10 a.m.

An ambulance was dispatched to the plant. Summit Street is blocked off.

The fire is on the Summit Street side of the plant. Multiple fire departments were responding.
