The Kent State Alumni Association plans to host its fifth annual National Day of Service on April 20.

Kent State alumni nationwide are encouraged to register in their areas to volunteer in their communities. Some local areas such as Kent and Akron have planned events with organizations such as Haven of Rest and Habitat for Humanity.

Local chapters such as the Stark County Chapter and the Southern California Alumni Chapter are also organizing events for the Day of Service. The nationwide event is sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance.

Event registration is due by Friday at www.ksualumni.org.

Lisa Mascellino, assistant director of outreach for the Kent State Alumni Association, said alumni enjoy participating in the event because it is a connection to Kent State and the community.

“Alumni who have volunteered at sites that work directly with the public have commented on the overwhelming connection they felt with the community and that organization,” Mascellino said. “It provides an opportunity for alumni to come together, give back to their community and offer a sense of pride in knowing that they helped others in need.”
