Kappa Sigma will host its third annual Greek Music Awards at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Student Center Ballroom to raise money for the Fisher House Foundation.

Matt Cola, philanthropy chair of Kappa Sigma and senior educational studies major, said the event is like the MTV Video Music Awards. Fourteen Greek organizations participating this year will submit music videos to get judged in their assigned categories of pop, hip-hop, country and rock.

Those attending the event are required to wear formal attire or dress as their favorite celebrity. The judges’ panel consists of Kappa Sigma brothers and the videos are pre-judged.

All of the proceeds will go to the Fisher House Foundation, a home for families with wounded veterans.

“There are many around the country,” Cola said. “The philanthropy is really close to me because I know so many veterans. I haven’t had any need for a Fisher House, but if anyone I knew in the military did get hurt, I could be close to them.”

Part of the event, called the Best of the GMA’s, took place Wednesday night. Cola said the group has raised around $2,000 so far, and it hopes to raise $5,000, which is $500 more than last year.

Presale tickets for the event can be purchased for $5 or tickets at the door can be purchased for $8. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. DVDs of the Greek Music Awards show, complete with bonus features, will be available to purchase at the event for $10.
