The Wick Poetry Center will present two award-winning poets Wednesday at its annual reading series featuring William Pitt Root and Pamela Uschuk. Both Root and Uschuk are acclaimed American poets and will be available to answer questions as well as sign books after the reading.

“The Wick Poetry Center’s annual reading series affords students and community members the ability to hear and interact with both established and emerging poets,” Jessica Jewell, academic program coordinator, said.

Root’s works include “White Boots: New and Selected Poems of the West,” “Trace Elements from a Recurring Kingdom” and “Reasons for Going It on Foot.” Root’s poetry has been featured in many journals, including The Atlantic. He is a poetry editor for the literary journal Cutthroat.

Uschuk has written six books of poems including “Scattered Risks”, “Finding Peaches in the Desert” and others. Uschuk’s poetry collection titled “Crazy Love” won the 2010 American book award. She has also received numerous awards including: the Dorothy Daniels Writing Award from the National League of American PEN Women, and the New Millenium Poetry Prize. Uschuk is currently the editor-in-chief at Cutthroat and is the director of the Cutthroat Online Writing Mentorship Program.

“We’re very fortunate to have many partners on campus who support these literary endeavors, and we’re proud that for all these years we’ve been able to keep our readings free and open to the public,” Jewell said.

The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 306 ABC in the Kent Student Center. The event is free and open to the public. The readings will showcase writers and poets from award winners to young children.
