Standing Rock Cultural Arts and Downtown Businesses will host their ninth annual “Make Mine with Ice” ice carving exhibition Saturday, Feb. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hometown Bank Plaza in downtown Kent.

Ice carvers from The University of Akron’s hospitality management program and Kent State University’s Ice Carving Club will put on a show for onlookers. Kent State’s ice carving club’s plan is a mystery, said Jeff Ingram, executive director for Standing Rock and Cultural Arts.

Akron has requested seven blocks of ice.

The Second Annual Chocolate Walk, an afternoon event held for local businesses to get recognition, is taking place the same day.

“This wasn’t planned, but it just adds more excitement for downtown Kent,” Ingram said.

Hot beverages and soups from Anthony’s Café will be available along with pastries from Stahl’s Bakery. The event is free and open to the public.

“Come down and enjoy downtown Kent and the cultural arts,” Ingram said.
